Highland Park Award 2024

The Horse Agility Club is delighted to announce the winner of the prestigious Highland Park Memorial Award.

Linda Jewell and Goldenrina Gem (GB)

Congratulations!

Highland Park, a Morgan horse, was born on 23rd March 1994 and was the first horse ever to be registered with The Horse Agility Club in February 2009.

Highland just loved playing at liberty and that is how Brenda would like to honour her memory:

‘I would like to remember Highland on her birthday each year for the next 10 years by making a donation to an environmental charity, chosen from a list, by an HA club member and their equine who work at liberty in a very special way.

I would like the emphasis to be on joy, enthusiasm and safety, not accuracy…so open to those pairs where the horse might do things in their own sweet individual way and, perhaps as Highland used to do, go off and do an obstacle again without being asked!’

The winner will receive the title Highland Park Liberty Memorial Award plus a certificate.

There will be no rosette, only a virtual one, which coincides with Brenda’s wishes on ecological grounds.

Wow I’m astonished, honoured and hugely pleased to receive this award ????. Gem certainly has a unique way of expressing herself. She does try hard and makes me laugh when she decides to do an obstacle in her own style. We started a year ago and still have plenty of room for improvement but trying the liberty has been fun and something different as we’ve moved up to the more difficult levels on line. Huge thanks to Brenda for presenting this award in memory of Highland Park. Receiving it will certainly inspire me to continue to enjoy, and hopefully progress, with our liberty work.

Warmest congratulations Linda and Gem. I wish you both all the best as you continue to enjoy your liberty work. Many apologies for not having logged on here sooner to say how pleased I am for you. I got cellulitis following being stung twice by a hornet so am behind on everything! xx

Many thanks, Brenda, I’m very proud of Gem. No worries about the delay and I’m very sorry you’ve not been well. I hope you’ve recovered from the cellulitis which sounds rather painful. My sister spent a few days in hospital with it following a tick bite so I understand how poorly it can make you. Keep well, all the best, xx
