OLHA Online Horse Agility

November Courses now available

Anyone, anywhere can compete and win prizes every month in our online Horse Agility video competitions. Appear in our Worldwide OHLA! League and compare your results with others from around the world...

How the competition works.

As part of your membership package to The International Horse Agility Club you receive two free OLHA! entries that you can use at any time. To enter the OLHA competitions you must first be a member of The International Horse Agility Club, if not already you can join through our membership page.

League points are awarded to the first 6 places in each class and as well as rosettes, a Good Horsemanship in Horse Agility Award may also be award to individuals who have demonstrated an exceptional degree of Good Horsemanship in Club Competitions.

Why OLHA?

International Competition.

Compete in our International League with other members from around the world, from your own back yard.

Improve your Horsemanship.

Receive an individual written report providing feedback and helpful tips with each entry.

Build the course.

Every month we will be posting a Horse Agility Course onto this page (see below for this month’s course) that you can easily recreate at home. Just like a real competition there are very few rules and regulations, we state you must have a lead rope that is at least 10feet (2.5m) long.

Film yourself completing it.

Film your video entry completing the course set for the current month, more instructions can be found below in ‘How to make your video’.

Then Submit.

Upload you entry to YouTube following in the steps outlined in ‘How to enter your video’.

Using a mobile to film your entry?

Don't worry if you don't have a video camera, most newer mobile phones are capable of producing video which can be used to enter our OLHA competitions.

Prizes!

Every competitor will receive a rosette for competing plus 1st, 2nd and 3rd placed competitors in each class also receive a place rosette. Each first prize winner in each class is awarded a special prize which can range from books, club t-shirts, ropes, gloves or free OLHA entries.

Each competitor will be sent an individual report on their round which includes feedback and helpful tips from the judges.

Each competitor receives a rosette for entering

How to submit your video

You can submit on enter via this page by clicking the 'Submit your Entry' button below and sending us your entry by filling in the form. Remember: you'll need a YouTube account inorder to submit your video.

Make sure your name is included in the 'Video Title', include your membership number in the 'Video Description' and the number of the class your are entering.

We recommend making your video 'unlisted' if you do not wish others to view it.

You should receive a conformation email with 72 hours of submitting your video, if you do not receive such an email then please contact the club office.

This is a great way to train and compete at the same time. All judges are Accredited Judges of the Horse Agility Club (HAATs). The Judge's decision is final, any complaints must be lodged in writing within 48 hours of the results being published on this website.

How to make your video

Build the course as close as you can to the plan. You may build it in any enclosed area - a field or arena is fine.

Make sure you practice first! Because you can only enter once per course, per month.

The video must be made without any breaks in other words the course must be filmed in one session (you can't do it lots of times and edit in the best bits!)

The horse and the handler must be in the same shot at all times but make sure the camera operator is not too far away. If we can't see it we can't judge it! At the start of the video you need to face the camera with your horse and tell us your name, your membership number and the name and registered number of your horse or write them in the video titles. Then off you go.

We are now combining Horse Agility with ridden work to offer a new dimension to working with your horse. In Equagility the horse and handler complete an obstacle course then complete the same course ridden.

Unlike our usual Horse Agility Levels system where, as you accumulate league points you are promoted up through the levels, in Equagility you can choose the level you want to compete at each month so that if you just want to walk there’s a course for you but if you feel ready to work on a more challenging aspect you can move to another level.

We recommend that a saddle (with or without stirrups), bridle and neck rope or strap are worn at ALL LEVELS but this is your choice.

The Equagility Red Course for November/December 2017 is now available.

This is a two phase class, there are only five obstacles to negotiate. First you must complete the five obstacles on the ground with a halter and leadrope, a rope round the neck OR at liberty then you mount the horse and ride through the obstacles at the same pace as on the ground. Ridden is with two reins attached to halter/headcollar.

For safety bridles and saddles are allowed (with or without trees), you may use a bareback pad (no stirrups) or saddle blanket and surcingle or ride bareback. If you use the bridle rein you will lose marks. You may have a neck strap or neck rope on the horse for safety.

THINK SAFETY AT ALL TIMES. DO NOT TAKE CHANCES.
You will not be judged on your riding style but your ability to be with your horse as he carries you around the course.

The filming must be continuous without a break between the ground- work and the ridden part so put any saddle onto your horse before you start. You may wish to put the bridle on between the groundwork and the ridden work.
