What is trick training? Is it only for circus horses? Why do it?
We all spend a lot of our horse time doing the necessary things, and sometimes it can be fun to teach something completely new, without any pressure to get results. For our horses, there’s little difference between learning to pick up a foot and learning to pick up a toy – they are both tricks. From simple things like doing a spin to more complicated things like jumping through a hoop, trick training is a great way to have fun with your horse and build a strong relationship based on mutual friendship and communication. Tricks can also be really helpful with day to day jobs; putting on a necklace can turn into putting on a headcollar, and putting a foot on a block is easily adapted to resting a foot on a hoof stand for the farrier.
Judith Edel is a Horse Agility Champion and Connection Training Coach, specialising in helping horses and their people build (or rebuild) their confidence so they can achieve their potential and enjoy their time together. She teaches horse-centred, reward based techniques which you will be able to use at home in your own training; you really can train your horse yourself, without pressure and without force. An understanding of reward based training (R+) is useful but not essential for this clinic! As always, Judith’s sessions are relaxed and fun, and all are welcome.
Sessions are 50 minutes long, starting at 10:30
Private sessions are £35, shared sessions (up to three people) are £25. If you would like to come and watch the clinic without your horse, spectator places are £10. Places are limited so please book in advance by messaging or by emailing firstname.lastname@example.org
